At the time of writing this update, the event looks like this:
- 100km Otway Odyssey – the Ultimate 100km MTB marathon = 922 entries received from a maximum of 1000.
- 50km Otway Shorty with its NEW course = 500 entries received, maximum 500 = SOLD OUT
- 15km Otway Pioneer for kids and new comers to the sport = 71 entries received from a maximum of 250
- Event as a whole = 1,493 entries out of maximum 1,750.
What does this mean?
It’s going to be huge (again).
The explanation:
The Otway Odyssey takes riders on an epic mountain bike journey through a range of wild landscapes that sees riders flying down flowing 4WD tracks, cranking up thigh burning hills and racing along sweeping single track on an odyssey sent from the gods.
Now in its 4th year, this is a pinnacle event on the national MTB calendar and an impressive goal for anyone who rides a bike, and that’s why its nearly sold out.
So if you want to claim ultimate bragging rights over your mates and complete the 100km Otway Odyssey then get in quick because at this rate it will be sold out before Christmas.
Reminders for riders:
Familiarisation days. We will be running a course familiarisation day in Forrest on Sunday January 17th and will be leading riders over sections of the course and answering any questions you have about the event. These ‘famil days’ are always friendly, non competitive rides designed to help new comers to the event so you can see what you have got yourself in for and to do some course specific training. Further details can be found here
Competitor services. We will be running the same number of competitor services during the event as in previous years and all are detailed on the event website. These include running a shuttle bus from Forrest to Apollo Bay on Saturday morning before the event and then again after the event, providing showers and facilities at the Forrest Football ground, transporting your clothing from the start to the finish, including the King of the Mountain and Timed Descent feature sections of the course, transporting your hydration and nutrition supplies from Apollo Bay to Forrest and our ever popular professional photographers will be out on the course capturing plenty of images of you in action. All the details on these services and the rest of the event can be found here
on the event website.
Added to this will be the same massive event expo and festivities at the Forrest football ground truly making this an event for everyone. So if you are doing the event, we recommend you to a) ensure you have entered and b) get some good training in over the Christmas period to burn off those extra calories and get some fitness in.
