'The Big Three' – HIV, TB and malaria – help us find cures to the world’s biggest killers.
We’re not talking about ‘the big three’ grand prix car races or ‘the big three’ tennis tournaments, we’re talking about the big three global killers – HIV, TB and malaria. Around the world infectious diseases kill millions and millions of people every year, and these three are by far the worst offenders.
- For every two
people put on antiretroviral drugs for HIV, another five become newly infected
- 1/3 of the world's
population is currently infected with TB
- Malaria causes over 1 million deaths every year
It’s like we’re at war really – Burnet scientists and health workers arm themselves with the latest scientific equipment and knowledge to combat these bad boys. But they just keep coming back for more, camouflaging themselves to avoid detection, destroying cells and causing illness along the way.
But as you know, war’s expensive and so is our fight against these killer viruses; any contribution you can make to Burnet will make a difference to our efforts. And remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
